Tara left
this morning so we are now on our own (with driver and guide). This morning we drove out into the countryside.
One of the sights was a magnificent pair of "homes" that had been built by a father for his two sons. (Someone had some serious money.)
Our destination is Tam Coc, also referred to as Halong Bay with rice fields.
It seems it is rice harvest time as we saw some people drying rice in the middle of the parking lot.
We took a sampan ride on a pretty little river that wound through rice fields and karst mountains.
The river ride was truly beautiful and serene. There were very few other tourists out on the river so we had it almost totally to ourselves.
The river flowed through two low caves. Our oar lady had a light on her head and handed us one as well so we could see where we were going.

We also saw a wild goat on the rock side...
and an extremely colorful bird. Subsequent research indicated that it was a white breasted kingfisher.

We then stopped at a small temple (name unknown) by a lake. The hike to the hills above the temple gave us some nice views of the lake and countryside.
Then it was in to town for lunch. The dining room gave us great views of the surrounding area.
After
lunch we decided that we didn’t need to take a boat ride on another river and
headed back to Hanoi. At dinner time we
walked back through town for dinner. The
night scene was just as crazy as the night before.
Bridal couples were out getting portraits taken.
It was fun to see everyone out having such a good time.
Many buildings were well lit with great reflections on the lake.
